DAY 1 - JOHANNESBURG INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT - PRETORIA HIGHLIGHTS: WELCOME DINNER AND BOMA EVENING You will be met at JHB International Airport by a Sama representative who will transfer you to your Pretoria lodge, where your motorcycle awaits. If you are arriving early a tour of Pretoria on motorcycle will be arranged. A Sama member will join you for dinner at the lodge, and there will be a short briefing on the upcoming tour. After dinner, the evening will be spent around the fire in the spectacular Boma enjoying the African evening.
DAY 2 PRETORIA TO PIET RETIEF (+- 300KM) HIGHLIGHTS: DRIVE THROUGH THE SPECTACULAR MPUMALANGA COUNTRYSIDE After a delightful breakfast, we will leave the hustle and bustle of the city behind us and make our way out into the Mpumalanga countryside where we will overnight in the small town of Piet Retief.
DAY 3 PIET RETIEF TO ST LUCIA (+-300KM) HIGHLIGHTS: ST. LUCIA A WORLD RENOWNED NATURAL HERITAGE SITE Today we travel through Mpumulanga, into Kwa-Zulu Natal, home of the proud Zulu nation. In the late afternoon we will arrive in St. Lucia- (a world renowned natural heritage site) with its beautiful secluded beaches, hippos, crocs, whales, endangered turtles and other wildlife, your home for the next two nights. Accommodation will be in a super hotel, overlooking the lagoon. Tonight you can explore the many restaurants, pubs and cocktail bars that St Lucia has to offer.
DAY 4 – ST LUCIA AT LEISURE DAY (0 > 50KM) HIGHLIGHTS: YOUR CHOICE OF: EARLY MORNING WHALE WATCHING, CAPE VIDAL TOUR, GAME DRIVES INTO HLUHLUWE/UMFOLOZI, CULTURAL EXPERIENCES, LAZY BEACHES, KAYAKING, WHALE WATCHING, SUNSET CRUISE ETC. St Lucia has so much to offer that we suggest an action packed day undertaking one of the many optional activities on offer e.g. An early morning Whale watching safari followed by a full/half day game drive into the magnificent Umfolosi /Hlhluwe game reserve, or a game drive to the whale watching tower in Cape Vidal, finishing the day off with a sunset cruise on St Lucia Estuary, or you could visit a Zulu cultural village. As all activities are extremely popular, to avoid disappointment Sama prefers to pre-book activities for you.
DAY 5 – ST LUCIA TO SHELLEY BEACH (+-350KM) HIGHLIGHTS: COASTAL DRIVE After breakfast we travel down the Kwazulu Natal coastline through Durban to the South Coast holiday town of Shelley Beach, your home for the next two nights. The beaches here are superb with good surf & warm water.
DAY 6 – SHELLEY BEACH AT LEISURE DAY (0 > 50KM) HIGHLIGHTS: EARLY MORNING WHALE SAFARI, OPTIONAL DRIVE TO SPECTACULAR ORIBI GORGE After an early breakfast, there is another optional Whale Safari. The Indian ocean is Dolphin country and in the winter frequent sightings of Bottlenose and Common dolphins can be made. Humpback whales entertain us with their spectacular breaches (leaps out of the water). After your marine adventure you can spend a lazy day on the beach, or take a drive inland to see the spectacular. Oribi Gorge.
DAY 7 – SHELLEY BEACH TO COFFEE BAY (+-450KM) HIGHLIGHTS: SCENIC DRIVE ALONG THE WILD COAST, DELICIOUS SEAFOOD After an early breakfast it is time to head for the Wild Coast– where our famous Madiba – former president Nelson Mandela - was born. You will see why this region is called the Wild Coast – endless unspoilt sandy beaches that stretch as far as the eye can see make this destination well worth a visit.
DAY 8 – COFFEE BAY TO PORT ALFRED (+-450KM) HIGHLIGHTS: HOLE IN THE WALL After visiting the hole in the wall – a natural hole in a rock formed by waves battering against it – we take the N2 to East London and continue on the coastal road to Port Alfred- a beautiful little coastal town with stunning sea views and good places to eat.
DAY 9 – PORT ALFRED TO KNYSNA (+-450KM) HIGHLIGHTS: BLOUKRANS BUNGEE, the Garden Route, Knysna Today we follow the coastal route to Knysna – the start of the famous Garden Route where we will be based for the next 3 nights. En route, if you are brave enough, you will have the opportunity to bungee from Bloukrans, the highest bungee in the world-214 metres of pure adrenalin. Tonight you can chose one of the many excellent pubs and restaurants Knysna has to offer for your dinner.
DAY 10 – KNYSNA – GARDEN ROUTE - KNYSNA (+-250KM) HIGHLIGHTS: THE GARDEN ROUTE, CANGO CAVES, OSTRICH FARMS, SPECTACULAR SCENERY AND WINDIES Today you enjoy the spectacular scenery and windies of the world famous garden route, visiting an ostrich farm and the Cango Caves, taking in the breathtaking Outeniqua Mountain pass.
DAY 11 – KNYSNA REST DAY (0 > 50) HIGHLIGHTS: EXPLORING KNYSNA, KNYSNA HEADS, KNYSA FOREST Knysna is a truly beautiful place and is ideal for a rest day. There is so much to do! You can go on a boat cruise, marvel at the Knysna heads, embrace the beautiful evergreen Knysna forest, meet the Knysna Elephants or simply relax and enjoy the pubs, restaurants and shops. Another option is re-exploring some of the beautiful routes and windies.
DAY 12 – KNYSNA – HERMANUS (+-450KM) HIGHLIGHTS: ROUTE 62, FOLDING MOUNTAINS, WINELANDS. After an early breakfast you make your way over the Outeniqua pass to the start of route 62. The road winds through the Swartberg Mountains and beautiful foothills in their valleys. This area is famous for its Wine-lands. Arrive at Hermanus – where you will be based for the next 3 nights. Hermanus is known as the whale Capital of South Africa and there are many remarkable opportunities to have close viewings of these gentle giants.
DAY 13 – HERMANUS EXPLORING DAY (+-100KM) HIGHLIGHTS: ENJOY THE VARIOUS ACTIVITIES IN AND AROUND HERMANUS Enjoy the activities of Hermanus, complete with Whale Crier who has a whale horn which he uses to notify tourists of whale sightings in the bay. You can enjoy whale spotting right off the cliffs surrounding Hermanus.
DAY 14 – HERMANUS –CAPE POINT ROUTE- HERMANUS HIGHLIGHTS: DRIVE THE BEAUTIFUL COASTAL ROUTES WITH VIEWS OF THE SPECTACULAR ATLANTIC OCEAN. Today we make our way to the most South-westerly point in Africa – Cape Point. We make our way over Chapmans peak- a spectacular mountain pass with breathtaking views of the Atlantic Ocean, stopping in at beautiful little seaside towns. Our route hugs the coastline virtually all the way. We make our way through the Cape of Good Hope Nature Reserve to arrive at the lighthouse that marks the exact point where the warm waters of False bay meet the cold waters of the Atlantic. We make our way up the peninsula again through Simons Town- Home to breeding colonies of the endangered Jackass penguin, to arrive back in Hermanus
DAY 15 HERMANUS TO GRAFF RENEIT (+-650KM) HIGHLIGHTS: DISCOVER THE KLEIN KAROO AND THE COLORFUL LOCALS After an early breakfast you make your way to the historical town of Graaff Reinette in the middle of the Karoo , where the warmth and hospitality of the local people will make you feel welcome . The more adventurous tourists can sample the local Mampoer – home brewed spirits unique to South Africa – Withond (white dog)
DAY 16 GRAAFF REINETT TO BLOEMFONTEIN (+-420KM) HIGHLIGHTS: THE CITY OF ROSES Today we make our way through to Bloemfontein known as the city of roses- due to the 4000 rose bushes planted in the magnificent Kings park. This town is the capital of the Free State and the Judical Capital of South Africa. Immerse yourself in the peace and tranquility of this intriguing historical city
DAY 17 – BLOEMFONTEIN – PRETORIA (+-455KM) The last leg of our tour . We leave the city of roses and travel through the rolling hills , wide golden plains and sandstone mountains of the Free State to Pretoria. After handing back your motorcycle, you will be transffered to your hotel where their will be a LEKKER*(delicious) farewell dinner.
DAY 18 END OF THE TOUR Sadly your whale watching tour has come to an end. After a last breakfast, you will be transferred to the airport for your Johannesburg flight.
