THIS ALL INCLUSIVE TOUR IS FOR THE BUDGET TRAVELLER, WHO WOULD LIKE TO EXPLORE THE GRASS ROOTS OF SOUTH AFRICA BY MORTORCYCLE. We travel to well known tourist destinations but also venture off the beaten track into more WILD LOCATIONS. All our accommodation is in up-market Backpacker lodges, where the atmosphere is fun and there are always interesting activities at hand. If you have a sense of adventure AND a passion for motorcycling then this tour is for you.
Route: We explore South Africa from “Coast to Coast” . Starting in Pretoria (the Capital city we make our way through Mpumalanga (stopping to do some game viewing in the Kruger National Park) on into Swaziland where we go Quad biking through rural villages. Our next stop is the Hluhluwe Park, full of wild game, after which we will meander down the South Coast, watching as it slowly becomes more rugged, finaly arriving in the Wild coast, the famous birthplace of Nelson Mandela. We will spend a few days exploring this vastly untouched paradise. Next on the list is Jefferys bay, a surfing mecca, and later we arrive in Knysna- the start of the famous Garden Route, where we will visit the Knysna elephants getting the chance to touch and feel their rough wrinkled skin. From here we head on to Cape town where our journey will come to an end.
DAY 1 ARRIVAL IN SOUTH AFRICA (0KM) You will arrive in Johannesburg- from where a Sama representative will fetch you and transfer you to your accommodation in Pretoria. We will hand over the motorcycles during the course of the day and there will be a pre- trip briefing in the evening followed by a delicious dinner.
DAY 2: PRETORIA TO HAZYVIEW (+-350KM) Highlights: SCENIC MOUNTAIN PASSES, NIGHT SAFARI INTO THE KRUGAR NATIONAL PARK. We take the scenic route from Pretoria to Hazyview, passing over Long Tom Pass and the highest tar road in South Africa: “Die berg pass”. We will arrive in HAZYVIEW in the late afternoon. This evening we will embark on a night safari (in a safari vehicle) into The Kruger National Park. At night the African jungle comes alive, The lions are on the prowl, the owls call from the trees and bushbabies come out to play.
DAY 3 EXPLORE MPUMALANGA (+- 300KM) HIGHLIGHTS: PINNACLE ROCK, GODS WINDOW, BOUKES LUCK POTHHOLES, THE 3 RONDAVELS AND THE MOHOLOHOLO REHAB CENTRE. Today we will be exploring Mpumalanga, the heart of South Africa. The winding mountain passes of the Panoramic route lead us through beautiful forests, down scenic valleys, and past waterfalls and interesting rock formations. We will stop to admire pinnacle rock, take in panoramic views at Gods Window, discover the whirling pools of the Bourkes lucke potholes, get great photos of The Three Rondavels and visit the Moholoholo Rehab centre- home to many wild animals that have been orphaned or abandoned.
DAY 4 HAZYVIEW TO EZULWINI VALLEY (+-300KM) HIGHLIGHTS: SWAZILAND CRAFT MARKETS, SHEBAS BREAST, HOT SPRINGS AND EXCELLENT CLUBS. Today there is an optional morning drive/ walk into Kruger National Park. After brunch we will depart for Swaziland, Taking in the scenic route via Jeppes reef border post. Tonight we sleep in Ezulwini Valley. On the slopes of SHEBAS BREAST (the mountain dude) Local craft markets are right on the doorstep of the lodge and there are numerous hot springs, restaurants and clubs in the area.
DAY 5 SWAZILAND BY QUAD HIGHLIGHTS: QUAD BIKING. VISITING LOCAL SWAZI HOMESTEADS. Today we say goodbye to 2 wheels and say hello to 4, as we hop onto quad bikes and meander along dirt roads, past waterfalls and secret spots, taking in breathtaking views and stopping en route at local villages, ending the day with a late afternoon supper and an African Sunset! Please note that if you do not wish to take part in the quad adventure, you can also spend the day: river rafting in the mighty Usutu river, caving or mountain biking- you choose!
DAY 6 EZULWINI VALLEY TO HLUHLUWE (+-300KM) HIGHLIGHTS: HLUHLUWE/UMFLOZI NATIONAL PARK, BUSH CAMP AND WILDLIFE. Today we make our way out of Swaziland again and south into Hluhluwe, a town that is famous for the Hluhluwe/Umfolozi National Park. This Park is home to All of the Big 5 and many other interesting species. We will be staying in a bush camp that is situated in the heart of big game country.
DAY 7 REST DAY HLUHLUWE (0KM) HIGHTLIGHTS: EXCITING OPTIONAL ACTIVITIES INCLUDING GAME DRIVES, THE CHEETAH PROJECT, CULURAL VILLAGE OR SNORKELING SAFARI. Today there are many activities to choose from, you can just relax on the pool deck, go for a day Safari into the HluHluwe/Umfolozi National Park, visit the Zulu culture village next door, stop in at the cheetah project or book a trip to St Lucia (a natural heritage site) that includes a lake cruise to view hippos and crocs, a visit to Bat Caves and lunch on the beach at Cape Vidal, where you can go snorkeling.
DAY 08 HLUHLUWE TO UMZUMBE (+-350KM) HIGHLIGHTS: JUNGLE STYLE ACCOMMODATION, WARM INDIAN OCEAN, SECLUDED BEACH. After a scrumptious bush breakfast we make our way down the coast to UMZUMBE – a small sea-side village. Our accommodation for the evening is situated two minutes away from a warm, secluded beach. The lodge has a jungle Jaccuzi, an exotic rock pool and a bar that serves ice cold beer and home made pizzas fresh out of their oven.
DAY 09 UMZUMBE TO COFFEE BAY (+-450KM) HIGHLIGHTS: SPECTACULAR DRIVE THROUGH THE WILD COAST, MOUTH-WATERING SEAFOOD. We make an early start leaving our jungle accommodation behind and make our way up to Oribi Gorge. This Gorge has spectacular view points, and for those brave enough, the wild swing (100 m of pure adrenaline) is one way of seeing the spectacular sights. From here we drive along coastal roads into the Wild Coast where beaches stretch for miles and local Xhosa huts line the rolling hills . Tonight we will be staying at the Coffee Shack, one of the most spectacular locations along the coast. Mouth watering, fresh Seafood, is on the menu for dinner.
DAY 10 COFFEE BAY TO CINTSA (+-250KM) HIGHLIGHTS: HOLE IN THE WALL Today we take a scenic drive through the wild coast, stopping in at the HOLE IN THE WALL, an extremely large hole formed in the rock from wind and waves battering against it for millions of years. We will be spending the next two nights at Cintsa River mouth. Here the lagoon meets the sea and there is a spectacular beach.
DAY 11 CINTSA REST DAY(0-50KM) HIGHLIGHTS: CINTSA RIVER MOUTH, GREAT SURF AND WILDLIFE. Today is a rest day and there are many activities to choose from. You can revitalize yourself in the brand new beauty bungalow, go horse riding on the beach, go canoeing down the river, join a canyoning/cultural tour, ride a bicycle, learn to surf or embark on a wildlife safari into BIG 4 territory (lions, buffalo, rhinos and leopards)
DAY 12 CINTSA TO JEFFERYS BAY (+-400KM) HIGHLIGHTS: SURFING MECCA, BILLABONG FACTORY SHOP, RESTAURANTS, BARS AND MUCH MUCH MORE. We make our way through the famous holiday towns of East London, Port Alfred, Kenton on sea and Port Elizabeth to arrive in Jeffreys Bay- A world famous surfing Mecca. Now is the time to clear the space in your bags, as a visit to the Billabong factory shop, will leave you smiling with all the surfer wear you can handle at super low prices. There are many restaurants and bars in town, guaranteeing that this will be an exciting stop-over.
DAY 13 JEFFREYS BAY TO KNYSNA (+-200KM) HIGHLIGHTS: BLOUKRANS AND STORMS RIVER GORGES, SUNDOWNER ELEPHANT EXPERIENCE. The drive along this coastline is spectacular. We drive past Storms river gorge as well as the Bloukrans bridge- home to the highest commercial Bungy jump in the world (216m) Our stop over for the next two nights is in Knysna- a town famous for the Knysna heads, evergreen forests and oysters. Tonight the group will make their way to the Knysna Elephant park where they will get to meet the African elephant on a more personal basis, as the sun sets over the horizon. You will get the opportunity to get close to the elephants and physically touch them, feel their skin and learn more about their interesting habits. Snacks and wine/beer will be provided.
Day 14 KNYSNA-GARDEN ROUTE- KNYSNA (+-250KM) HIGHLIGHTS: RIDING THE GARDEN ROUTE, VISITING OSTRICH FARMS AND THE CANGO CAVES. Today we drive along the world famous Garden Route. This region is well known for the spectacular mountain passes and scenery that make it one of the best areas for motorcycling in South Africa. We will wind our way over the Swartberg pass, arriving in Oudtshoorn, the capital of the Klein Karoo, famous for all its ostrich farms. Here we will go on a ostrich tour, and later you may get the chance to ride ostriches and sample ostrich steaks! Further on we will stop at the Cango caves, and take an interesting tour into the caverns, full of stalactites and stalagmites.
DAY 15 KNYSNA TO CAPE TOWN (+-450KM) HIGHLIGHTS: COASTAL DRIVE, CAPE TOWN AND THE V & A WATERFRONT. We leave evergreen forests behind and head for South Africa’s mother city, Cape Town. This drive is very scenic with many interesting stops along the way. Tonight there will be a farewell dinner at the V& A Waterfront- a stunning shopping complex that has been built around a working harbor.
DAY 16 END OF THE TOUR… Sadly the tour has come to an end. For those of you leaving, there will be a free transfer to the Airport. We highly recommend extending your visit to South Africa for another couple of days in Cape town as there is so much to do and see in this colorful city.
